First lets familiarize with this product and after that we will talk about truvia side effects. This post may seem strange for readers because information collected about this food ingredient appear almost as non-side affected product. Truvia is made from Stevia leafs and it is natural sweetener used instead of sugar. Truvia competes with Splenda (sucralose), Equal (aspartame), Sweet’n Low (saccharin), and table sugar which also produced in packets. Truvia is food ingredient and it is used in food production and beverages production. For example Sprite Green is using this ingredient. Why Truvia is better than table sugar?
First of all it is few hundred times sweeter than sugar. In the second it is natural sweetener produced from Stevia leafs. It contains Erythritol and rebaudioside A. Rebaudioside A is one of few steviol glycosides. It is 200 times sweeter than sugar we use. Steviol glycosides are responsible for the sweet taste of the Stevia.
What is Erythritol?
Erythritol is a sugar alcohol and it is non-caloric (0.2 kilocalories per gram). It is 95% less caloric than sugar and other carbohydrates and what is most interesting it is 60 – 70% sweeter than table sugar. It is found naturally in some fruits like: melons, grapes, pears and in the fermented foods like cheese and wine. It doesn’t cause tooth decay, doesn’t affect blood sugar and much less likely to cause gastric side effects than other sugar alcohols.

It may have side effects like all products can but you hardly and unlikely get side affected of this product. In normal using of Truvia studies show no Truvia side effects. There is no effect on blood sugar levels.
Truvia side effects can be if you use more than 35 grams of it. In another word at one time you must use 30 grams of erythritol to MAYBE get side affected because in Truvia packet 3.5 grams are 3 grams of it. More than 50 grams of Erythritol can cause nausea, stomach growling (rumbling) and unlikely allergic urticaria. If you interesting to know more about Erythritol please read this post: “WHAT IS Erythritol”
I could find only one frightening thing about Truvia for few minutes. It is that rebaudioside A in the Truvia is over 95% and rebaudioside A chemically is close to Stevioside and Stevioside known to cause DNA damage in rats http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Truvia but… but in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steviol_glycoside is writen that Rebaudioside A and Stevioside are not genotoxic. So you, my readers, decide safe to use Truvia or not.
